After establishing diplomatic ties with Armenia, Pakistan is in talks with the Armenian government to set up its embassy in Yerevan. Diplomats from Armenia and Pakistan are working on a plan to open the embassy next year, ET has learnt.

"By signing a joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan, the governments of Armenia and Pakistan have agreed to exchange representatives and provide each other with necessary support for the purpose of bringing diplomatic relations to life...," according to an official response from the Armenian MFA.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan were established on August 31. Sources told ET that Pakistan embassy's presence in Yerevan may not automatically translate into Armenia pursuing a pro-Pakistan policy. India is closely monitoring the developments.

Armenia has always backed India on the Kashmir issue and a few years ago India began exporting defence hardware to Armenia.
