One step at a time: Canadian creates spectacular 'snowshoe art'
1/5
Winter special
In North America, Canada especially, winters are extreme, snowed in, white out periods. In all that cold, one retired man is bringing joy to the internet with his artwork all across the Canadian landscape.

Brain behind the art
The geometric patterns in the snow are the work of Kim Asmussen, a retired headmaster who stomps around in his winter shoes creating the works of art.

Massive moments
Asmussen plans out his work, using drafting software to design his ideas before committing them to the snow. His biggest work is about 400 meters long, painstakingly drawn in a location he scouted out beforehand.

Inspired
The headmaster says he was inspired to create these patterns thanks to artist Simon Beck, whose work - a giant snowflake, a wolf and a maple leaf - is on Canadian mountain sides.
