Once known for his bulk, Dave Bautista’s drastic weight loss shocks fans, sparks WWE nostalgia

Former WWE star turned Hollywood actor, Dave Bautista, has undergone a noticeable transformation, leaving fans in awe of his drastic weight loss. The 55-year-old, known for his bulked-up physique during his wrestling days, recently surprised everyone with a much slimmer look at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) premiere of The Last Showgirl.

Fans on social media couldn’t help but comment on Dave’s striking new appearance. One X user posted side-by-side images of Bautista—one from 2022 showcasing his muscular frame and another from TIFF 2024, where he sported a sleek black suit, pearl necklaces, and dark sunglasses. The dramatic difference prompted the caption, “What happened to Dave Bautista?”



However, many fans defended Bautista’s transformation, attributing it to both his age and the shift in his career from wrestling to acting. One user commented, “He was a wrestler, now he’s an actor. Two different phases of his life, and he’s killing it in both!” Another added, “Bautista is 55, it’s normal for him to get leaner over time. His muscle mass has naturally reduced.”

Another fan highlighted Bautista’s evolving career: “He’s becoming one of the great actors who lets his work do the talking. He’s focused on acting now, not just action movies. His body suited wrestling, but now his passion is acting, and that requires a different build.”

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Bautista shared more details about his weight loss. “I’m in the best shape I’ve been since I was 19,” he revealed. “At my heaviest, I weighed 370 lbs. When I started wrestling as a Deacon, I was around 325 lbs. Most of my wrestling career, I maintained about 290 lbs. A year and a half ago, while filming Knock at the Cabin, I hit 315 lbs. and that’s when the real struggle to shed the weight began.”

Bautista explained that he’s now very mindful of his diet, saying, “I’m around 240 lbs. now, which is the lightest I’ve been in decades. Getting the weight off has been a tough journey, but I’m happy with where I am.”

After his TIFF appearance, fans won’t have to wait long to see Bautista back on screen. He’s set to star in The Killer’s Game, alongside Sofia Boutella. The film is scheduled for release on September 13, 2024.
