'No direct deposit...': Texas Dems face paycheck restrictions amid walkout in redistricting standoff
Texas Democrats are under mounting pressure to return to the state as Republicans push for a quorum to advance key legislative measures on Friday. In a bid to compel Democrats back to Austin, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows sent out a memo to House reps requiring the lawmakers who broke quorum to collect their paychecks in person. House leaders announced that direct deposits will be suspended until a quorum is restored, meaning enough voting members must be present. “Yesterday, Attorney General Ken Paxton and I took action to domesticate the civil arrest warrants in the state of Illinois seeking to make them enforceable beyond Texas state lines. I expect suits in other states will be forthcoming,” Burrows said in the chamber.
