An audio message attributed to Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Maulana Masood Azhar has begun circulating on social media, in which the militant leader asserts that his organisation now has “thousands” of suicide attackers ready for immediate action, reported TOI.

The clip emerged alongside a separate video involving Lashkar-e-Taiba’s deputy commander Saifullah Kasuri, who is seen telling an audience that the Pakistan Army invited him to lead funeral prayers for its own soldiers following India’s Operation Sindoor in May last year.

Both recordings were posted by pro-ISI social media accounts on Telegram and X.

Officials and analysts interpret the timing of the releases as a coordinated attempt to restore influence and morale inside extremist networks that suffered severe damage during India’s military operation.

Kasuri’s message was delivered from inside a school with children visible in the crowd, while Azhar’s recording appears to capture him addressing a public gathering, according to TOI sources.

Security agencies probe audio

In the newly surfaced message, Azhar claims the scale of his manpower would cause global upheaval if fully disclosed.

He portrays his followers as driven solely by the desire for “martyrdom,” stressing that they seek neither wealth nor personal comfort, but only what he describes as spiritual reward.

"They only ask Allah for 1 thing: martyrdom," the UN-designated terrorist said.

Security specialists, however, describe the statement as largely symbolic — an effort to project power after Operation Sindoor crippled JeM’s core leadership and infrastructure in Bahawalpur, eliminating at least ten of Azhar’s relatives and senior aides.

"This audio appears to be a calculated effort to save face after the group’s leadership was "torn to pieces", as recently admitted by other JeM commanders," a source told the news outlet.

Azhar himself has not appeared in public since an explosion struck his Bahawalpur hideout in 2019, triggering years of speculation about his condition and location.

Although the audio offers no visual proof of his survival, officials believe he continues to direct activities from deep within a protected enclave in Pakistan.

Indian security agencies are now subjecting the clip to detailed technical analysis, examining voice samples and digital signatures to trace its origin and reassess the threat posed by JeM’s remaining networks and dormant operatives.
