Nepal's new Constitution draft likely in 15 days: Prasad Sitaula, chairman, Drafting Committee

KATHMANDU: Nepal's Constitution drafting committee has started working on preparing the draft of the new constitution within 15 days, the committee's chairman said today.

Addressing the committee meeting, Nepali Congress leader and Constitution Drafting Committee Chairman Krishna Prasad Sitaula said the body has officially begun the work to prepare the draft of the new constitution within 15 days.

A meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Friday had given 15 days to prepare and submit a draft of the new constitution to the Drafting Committee, ekantipur.com reported.

A breakthrough in the long-pending Constitution-writing process emerged after Nepal's warring political parties struck a landmark 16-point deal to end years of deadlock over contentious issues related to the statute.

Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, UCPN (Maoist) and Madhesi People's Rights Forum-Democratic ( MPRF-D) leaders agreed to adopt an eight-province federal model and parliamentary system of governance, in a rare show of unity following the devastating quakes.
