KATHMANDU: Binod Chaudhary, a Nepali billionaire of Indian-origin, has been conferred an honorary doctorate degree by a university in India for his outstanding contribution in philanthropy.

Chaudhary, president of Chaudhary Group was awarded the honorary doctorate degree yesterday at a convocation ceremony of the Sri Sri University held in Orissa.

Sri Sri Ravi Shanker, founder of Art of Living International was present while Chief Minister of Orissa, Naveen Patnaik was the chief guest at the function, according to a press release issued by the Chaudhary Group here.

The honor comes at a time when Chaudhary is supporting philanthropic projects of constructing 10,000 homes and 100 school buildings destroyed during the devastating April 25 earthquake in Nepal.

In September, Forbes Asia had listed Chaudhary with net worth of USD 1.41 billion.
