Nepal Earthquake: A list of Himalayan nation's deadly quakes since 2015

Nepal, a landlocked country nestled in the Himalayas, experienced a devastating earthquake that claimed the lives of 128 individuals, leaving many more injured. There are concerns among officials that the casualty count might increase.

Nepal, a financially challenged and mountainous country situated between the formidable neighbors China and India, has been frequently rattled by seismic activity. The most catastrophic among them occurred in 2015 when two earthquakes resulted in the loss of approximately 9,000 lives.

During that tragic event, entire towns, centuries-old temples, and numerous historical landmarks were reduced to ruins. Over a million houses were destroyed, causing a staggering economic loss estimated at $6 billion.

NOV 3, 2023
A powerful earthquake rocked the western region of Jajarkot, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 128 lives and leaving numerous individuals injured. The impact of the quake was so intense that it caused buildings to collapse in the affected area, and its tremors were felt as far away as New Delhi, the capital of neighboring India. According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, the earthquake's magnitude was recorded at 5.7, while the U.S. Geological Survey reported it as a 5.6 magnitude event.

OCT 3, 2023
In western Nepal, a pair of earthquakes struck, resulting in 17 people sustaining injuries, causing structural damage to homes, and triggering a landslide that obstructed a significant highway. Following these seismic events with magnitudes of 6.3 and 5.3, which occurred in the Bajhang district along the border with India, a landslide occurred, blocking access to the southern plains via the affected road.

A seismic event with a magnitude of 5.6 struck a remote district in Nepal, resulting in the loss of one life and causing damage to over 25 houses. The tremors from the earthquake were felt as far as New Delhi.

Nepal experienced its most devastating earthquake on April 25, striking at four minutes to midday. This seismic event registered a magnitude of 7.8 and was subsequently followed by a second tremor 17 days later, resulting in a tragic loss of 9,000 lives in total.

The most lethal earthquake Nepal had previously faced occurred in 1934, claiming the lives of at least 8,519 people within Nepal and causing the unfortunate loss of thousands more in neighboring India.
