Mufti Shah Mir, a well-known Pakistani scholar, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Balochistan province, PTI reported, citing media sources. The incident took place in Turbat town of Kech on Friday when he was leaving a mosque after night prayers, according to Dawn newspaper.

As per police reports quoted by Dawn, "Armed men riding motorcycles opened fire on Mufti Shah Mir, leaving him seriously injured." He was quickly taken to Turbat hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. He had suffered multiple bullet wounds, which led to his death.

Mufti Shah Mir was known to be close to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). This was not the first attack on him—he had previously survived two assassination attempts. His murder follows the recent killings of two JUI-F leaders in Khuzdar, raising concerns about targeted attacks on members of the party.

Mir was also accused of helping Pakistan’s ISI spy agency in kidnapping former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav from Iran.
