Middle East war: ‘Expressed deep concern,’ PM Modi speaks to Iran’s president amid escalating crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the worsening security situation in the region, expressing concern over rising tensions, civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.

In a post on X on Thursday, Modi said the conversation focused on the escalating crisis and its humanitarian and economic implications, including the safety of Indian nationals and the movement of energy supplies.

"Had a conversation with Iranian President, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, to discuss the serious situation in the region.

Expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and the loss of civilian lives as well as damage to civilian infrastructure.

The safety and security of Indian nationals, along with the need for unhindered transit of goods and energy, remain India’s top priorities.

Reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability and urged for dialogue and diplomacy."

The call comes as tensions in the Middle East continue to intensify, raising concerns globally about civilian safety, regional stability and potential disruptions to energy shipments. India, which relies heavily on imported crude oil and energy supplies from the region, has been closely monitoring developments while also focusing on the safety of its citizens in affected areas.
