MAC Group boss David Morton and his two daughters were shot while his wife was struck with a hammer during an invasion inside their multi-million-dollar home. The tragic incident happened in an affluent and posh Toronto neighborhood Thursday morning. It has now come to the fore that the Canadian family desperately tried to fight off masked intruders at their mansion, reports The New York Post. David Morton and his entire family were brutally attacked at their gated property in Toronto’s upscale Bridle Path neighborhood at 3:45 am.

According to a report in the Toronto Sun, David Morton and his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, were shot and hit with a hammer as they “tried to fight off” three men wearing hoodies and ski masks. His wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, also sustained injuries from the hammer.

How did the suspects break into David Morton's house?

The attackers were armed with handguns and a hammer and they barged to the five-bedroom residence through a back door, Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith told reporters. “A struggle ensued during this altercation in which the suspects fired their guns multiple times and one victim was struck with a hammer,” Smith said.

Morton, 75, and his daughters, Maggie Zohil-Morton and Cristina Zohil-Morton “tried to fight off” the trespassers when they were shot, sources told the outlet. While Morton and one of his daughters were shot in the leg, while the other daughter suffered a gunshot wound under her arm, the report stated.

The seven-bathroom property is valued at $2.1 million and boasts a tennis court, an in-ground swimming pool and private gardens designed to “enhance a luxury lifestyle,” according to its online listing.

The alleged intruders reportedly escaped the upscale neighborhood in an SUV, officials said. Authorities have not released descriptions of the suspects or confirmed whether anything was stolen from the residence.

Why was David Morton's house attacked?

The motive behind the home invasion remains unclear, although investigators believe the property may have been targeted for valuables. “There was a violent interaction. There was a demand made for valuables from within the home. Whether or not they escaped with anything is uncertain at this point,” Smith said.

Smith suggested that the neighborhood's affluence may have made it an attractive target. “An affluent area where people would have things that are sought after would be the motivation for this,” Smith added. The MAC Group is a family-owned business headquartered in Toronto, with divisions specializing in real estate, hospitality and corporate housing.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow asked anyone with information, including any footage, to come forward and insisted, “violence is not acceptable in our city.” "I am deeply troubled by the violent home invasion early this morning in the Bridle Path neighborhood. My thoughts are with the family and their loved ones, who are going through something no family should ever have to face. I am praying for their full recovery,” Chow wrote on X.
