BEIJING: A Russian flight from Beijing to Moscow created a scare among people living in downtown residential areas of China's capital when it flew very low after taking a wrong turn.

The accident may have been caused by the mis-operation of the captain, officials were quoted as saying by The Beijing Youth Daily.

The Russian Transaero Airlines flight took a wrong turn west after flying a short distance south, and then flew directly over downtown Beijing.

Ground control spotted the flight was heading in the wrong direction just in time and immediately informed the captain who corrected its direction.
