LIVE | Trump's pick for Navy Secretary John Phelan testifies at confirmation hearing

During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Navy Secretary nominee John Phelan testified on how he would work to improve the U.S. Navy by addressing recruitment and retention in the branch, as well as increase the Navy's fleet among other issues. In testimony he said, "If confirmed I will use my business and military charitable work experience to ensure that our Navy and Marine Corps are prepared to meet the moment." Before his nomination, Mr. Phelan founded a private equity firm and served as a board member of Spirit of America, a non-partisan group supporting American troops abroad.
