She added that Musk could face scrutiny from Congress, saying, “But Elon Musk is right up there for that. And so they're going to look at what he's done.” Swisher also suggested that Musk anticipates future consequences for his actions. “He has a very big sense of fate and I think it's coming for him and real hard,” she said.
Musk is a known supporter of US President Donald Trump and has poured billions into his election campaign and even worked in the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency between January to May 2025. Musk returned to the Trump admin, joining the Project Meridian in September.
Meanwhile, Musk responded to Swisher's remarks on X, writing, “Live by the sword, die by the sword. Sounds like Swisher really wants to go to prison.” He shared a clip from the podcast alongside the post.
What Kara Swisher said about Elon Musk and Trump
During the podcast discussion, Swisher argued that Musk had reasons beyond political ideology to support Trump, including concerns about investigations involving his businesses. She also pointed to Musk's access to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and government contracts as benefits of his relationship with the Trump administration.
“He got DOGE. He got all this access. He got all these contracts. In fact, it was a big payday for him,” she said.
Swisher argued that Musk has a strong incentive to keep Trump in power.
She also suggested that Musk could use his wealth to influence future political outcomes, adding that he would seek to keep Vice President JD Vance in power if he could do so through political spending.
Swisher argued that a change in congressional control could lead to renewed scrutiny of Musk's businesses.
“An emboldened Congress is going to start investigating him again,” she said.
She also claimed that several agencies had been investigating Musk's companies before DOGE intervened.
“There were all these agencies, some of which he put a knife in and killed in the DOGE, many of whom were investigating him. He stopped like a half a dozen investigations of his various companies,” Swisher said.
