'Lahore' born in quake-hit Nepal

KATHMANDU: The first baby born in a field hospital set up here by Pakistan Army in quake-hit Nepal has been named after the city of Lahore, Pakistani officials said today.

"Both baby and mother are in good health," Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said.

This is the first child birth reported at the army field hospital set up in Bhaktapur town near Kathmandu.

A military official said that the baby was named after Pakistan's historic city of Lahore.

A number of such field hospitals have been set up in quake-hit Nepal that has been devastated by Saturday's powerful temblor.

Army paramedics from Paksitan have set up a 30-bed field hospital in Nepal to treat the victims.

The 7.9-magnitude earthquake killed over 6,300 people and injured nearly 14,000 others as it flattened buildings and uprooted electric poles and trees in one of the worst disasters in the country.

According to the UN, around 8 million people have been affected, of whom approximately 1,26,000 are pregnant women
