Indian envoy: Had extensive discussions on our shared goal to strengthen trade ties
New Delhi: Amid uncertainty over timeline on concluding Indo-US trade deal, Indian envoy to the US Vinay Kwatra held a meeting with US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor at US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.

It is understood that among other issues, the discussions focused on the proposed trade deal and reduction of 50% tariff imposed on India.

In a post on X, Kwatra said they had "extensive discussions on our shared goal to strengthen trade ties, as also his (Gor) plans and priorities for our bilateral partnership as he prepares to assume his responsibility as the US Ambassador to India!"

Gor is expected to arrive in New Delhi in mid-January and will be assisted by certain non-career diplomats in the embassy here.

Few weeks ago, Kwatra hosted senior American lawmakers and diplomats for a farewell reception honouring Gor. Kwatra then said on X that he was "honoured to host a farewell reception for ambassador Sergio Gor at India House" and wished him well as he prepared for his assignment.
