During his Middle East visit on May 13, 2025, US President Trump combined business with diplomacy, reaching out to the nascent government in Syria, extending an olive branch to Iran and agreeing to what the White House hailed as the largest economic pact signed by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. The economic agreements include a $142-billion defence deal with Saudi Arabia, providing the kingdom with a slew of modern weaponry and offensive systems that Trump’s predecessor, President Biden, had been holding in reserve to incentivise the Saudi royal family to normalise relations with the Israeli government.
