Israeli military strikes a residential area in Gaza City as US-Gaza proposal falters

The Israeli military hit a residential area in Gaza City on Sunday (June 1) causing a huge cloud of dust and smoke whilst dozens of Palestinians rushed to help the injured. It was not immediately clear how many people were killed and injured in the attack. The strike comes after another attack near an aid distribution point in southern Gaza killed as many as 31 Palestinians on Sunday, according to local health authorities and as Hamas and Israel exchanged blame over a faltering effort to secure a ceasefire. Hamas said on Saturday it was seeking amendments to a US-backed ceasefire proposal, But US President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff rejected the group's response as "totally unacceptable."
