Israel has asked India to declare Hamas as a proscribed terror organisation, with the Israeli envoy saying that the request has been made in the past and has been reiterated during talks after the October 7 attack. Speaking at the UN Security Council on the crisis, India has said that it will continue sending aid for Palestinian citizens and urged that every effort must be made to resume Israel-Palestine talks.

Israel’s Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon said that friendly dialogue continues with India and there is ‘100 percent’ support from New Delhi for countering Hamas terrorism. India has placed a ban on 44 terror organisations, with ISIS being the last transnational organisation added to the list in 2015. More recently, terror outfits active in Kashmir and a Khalistani group has been placed on the list.

Responding to questions on India’s stand on the conflict, Gilon said that there has been support at the highest levels and a similar understanding of the issue.
