“We will strike thousands of targets of the terrorist regime in the coming days,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a post on X, amid escalating hostilities with Iran.

In a direct address aimed at the Iranian public, Netanyahu said Israel would intensify its military campaign while calling on citizens of Iran to seize what he described as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to overthrow their leadership.

He urged Iranians to “take to the streets in your millions” and unite to end what he called a regime of terror that has “embittered your lives.” Addressing various ethnic communities — including Persians, Kurds, Azeris, Ahwazis and Baluchis — Netanyahu said the time had come to “unite your forces to overthrow the regime and secure your future.”

The remarks come as Israel expands its military operations against Iranian targets, raising fears of a prolonged and wider regional conflict.

Earlier today, Iranian state television confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hours after US President Donald Trump said he had been killed in joint US-Israeli strikes. The announcement followed waves of attacks launched Saturday on targets across Iran, which Israel said involved around 200 fighter jets hitting more than 500 sites, including missile launchers and locations where senior officials were gathered.

Iranian media later reported that several top commanders, including armed forces chief Abdolrahim Mousavi and Revolutionary Guards head Mohammad Pakpour, were also killed. Iran’s judiciary said 108 people died in a strike on a girls’ school in Minab, a claim AFP could not independently verify.

Trump said the bombing would continue as long as necessary and warned Iran against retaliating. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in the coming days Israel would strike “thousands of targets” and urged Iranians to seize what he described as a rare opportunity to rise up against their leadership.

Iran responded within hours, saying it had targeted US bases in Iraq’s Kurdistan region and in Gulf countries. Air raid sirens sounded in Jerusalem, while explosions were reported in Dubai, Manama and Doha. Israel’s emergency service said one woman was killed and at least 21 injured in the Tel Aviv area. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards later said they had moved to close the Strait of Hormuz.

Protests erupted across Iran and in parts of the region, including Iraq and Pakistan, where eight people were killed as demonstrators tried to storm the US consulate in Karachi. The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting as several countries closed their airspace and airlines cancelled flights amid the escalating conflict.
