Islamabad firmly supports China's core interests: Pakistan Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua

Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said that the country is fully committed to building the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

BEIJING: Pakistan firmly supports China on issues concerning its core interests, Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said during a meeting with Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi here today.

During their meeting, Yang said it was important for China and Pakistan to enhance strategic communication under current global and regional circumstances, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Yang called on both sides to maintain close high-level contacts, promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor under the Belt and Road Initiative, forge ahead cooperation in different areas and intensify coordination in multi-lateral organisations such as the United Nations and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, according to a press release issued after the meeting.


Janjua, who is visiting China for the first time after her appointment as Foreign Secretary, said Pakistan is committed to building the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and would like to maintain close communication with China on major international and regional issues.
