The development comes amid heightened regional tensions. In a separate development, Iranian state media on Monday announced that Majid Khademi, head of the intelligence organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been killed in what Tehran described as an attack by its adversaries.
"Major General Majid Khademi, the powerful and educated head of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was martyred in the criminal terrorist attack by the American-Zionist enemy... at dawn today," the Guards said in a post on their Telegram channel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a post on X, claimed responsibility for the operation and said it was part of a broader campaign targeting Iran’s military leadership.
