Indian cricketer Nikhil Chaudhary, who plays for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, is facing trial in Australia after being accused of rape. The trial, taking place in the District Court in Townsville, revolves around an incident that occurred in May 2021.

Friends of the alleged victim testified in court, stating that they saw her crying and heard her say she had been raped after a night out. The prosecution alleges that the woman was sexually assaulted by Chaudhary in his car on Flinders Street, leaving her bruised and bleeding. However, the defense disputes whether digital penetration occurred and whether the woman consented to the sexual act.

According to reports, Chaudhary met the 20-year-old victim on the dance floor of The Bank nightclub, where they danced and kissed. The woman's friends became concerned when they saw her leaving with Chaudhary in his car around 3 am. One friend stated that he saw Chaudhary getting out of the car after banging on the victim's car window, at which point she was crying and alleging rape.

The victim's mother confirmed the incident, stating that her daughter called her crying on the morning of May 23, 2021, and said she had been assaulted. The mother mentioned missing a phone call from her daughter at 3:11 am, shortly after the supposed attack, but spoke to her daughter at around 3:55 am.

Forensic nurse Nicole Aitken, who examined the complainant within hours of the alleged rape, stated that the victim had suffered internal injuries. However, she could not conclusively determine the cause of the injuries.

Chaudhary has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape. Constable Alexandra Smith, who spoke to the woman after the incident, testified that the woman did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol and was coherent, walking fine, and speaking clearly when she reported the sexual assault.
