What does the I-90 winter weather advisory say?
The advisory was issued by the National Weather Service office in Missoula on Thursday, October 8. The warning states: "Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches. Winds gusting high as 35 mph." It also adds: "Plan on road conditions." The advisory runs from Saturday evening through Sunday evening. Which highways could see snow and slippery roads?
The winter weather advisory covers five highway stretches and passes in western Montana. The National Weather Service has listed the following routes:- - Interstate 90 (I-90): East Missoula to Bearmouth
- - Highway 83: Seeley Lake to Condon
- - Highway 93: Sula to Lost Trail Pass
- - Highway 200: Bonner to Greenough
- - Lolo Pass: The pass crossing
When will the snow and strong winds arrive?
The snow and strong winds are expected to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, October 10 and continue until 6 p.m. Sunday, October 11 2026 Montana time. During that time snowfall could reach 3 inches and wind gusts may reach 35 mph. This combination could make driving difficult on mountain passes and open stretches.
Drivers are advised to check the forecast and road conditions before traveling. The National Weather Service recommends slowing down and being cautious on the roads. It also warns that sidewalks stairs and driveways could become icy increasing the risk of slips and falls.

Winter storm watch issued for other parts of Montana
A separate winter storm watch has also been issued for parts of Montana. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the Butte/Blackfoot region. Forecasters expect 3 to 7 inches of snow with wind gusts reaching 45 mph. The watch covers areas including Homestake Pass, Butte, Georgetown Lake, MacDonald Pass and Highway 12 from Garrison, to Elliston. The NWS warns that travel could become very hard.
