Hurricane Lala leaves thousands without power in Hawaii amid 'life-threatening' conditions

Lala strengthened into a hurricane as it churned towards Hawaii's Big Island, on Saturday (August 15) bringing heavy rainfall and powerful winds that forecasters predicted could cause heavy damage to parts of the state. Thousands of people had lost power and officials urged residents to seek shelter as the storm barreled towards the Big Island and Maui.
