Vance, who grew up Christian but was never baptized, shared insights into his spiritual evolution and the role Usha played in his return to Christianity. The couple first met while studying at Yale Law School and formalized their union in a dual ceremony held in Kentucky in 2014. This included both a Western-style wedding and a separate Hindu ceremony officiated by a Hindu priest, honoring Usha's cultural heritage. Together, they are parents to three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
Reflecting on her upbringing in a Hindu household, Usha credited her parents' influence for her supportive role in Vance's spiritual journey. She emphasized the importance of open dialogue in their approach to parenting, highlighting shared principles that guide their family life despite their diverse religious backgrounds.
In addition to her role as a supportive spouse, Usha Chilukuri Vance is a lawyer with an impressive academic and professional background. Originally from a suburb of San Diego, she graduated from Yale University with a BA in history in 2007.
She furthered her studies at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar, earning an MPhil in 2009. Her legal career includes positions at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, clerkships at the Supreme Court of the US and the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and a summer associate role at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.
