How France will distribute coronavirus vaccines
1/5
Free for all
The first round of coronavirus vaccines in France is soon to begin as the country hopes to receive approval of the vaccine from EMA as soon as possible. The vaccines are set to be free for all as the government has earmarked 1.5 billion euros to cover costs. While the vaccine will not be mandatory, officials have urged citizens to get a shot.

When is approval expected?
The medical advisory body is set to complete its process of approval by December for Pfizer/BioNTech and January 12 for the Moderna vaccine, which means the vaccination process could begin as early as January 2021.

Who will receive it first?
There are three main stages of how France aims to undertake its vaccination campaign. First, the vaccines will be given to nursing home residents and its staff. Second, in March, about 14 million people based on their age and medical criteria will receive the vaccine. And third, the campaign will then target the rest of the adult population gradually.

How will vaccines be transported?
Two separate logistics circuits have been set up by France to make sure the vaccines reach the nursing homes safely. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has to be stored at a temperature of -70 degrees Celsius. The manufactured vaccines will be stored in pharmaceutical warehouses before they reach their destination.

Who will be in charge of administering vaccines?
General practitioners all over France will be entitled to administer vaccines. Health workers at the local level will also be involved in the vaccination campaign.
