House and Senate block Trump recess appointments with brief sessions, Thune confirms vote shortfall
In a rare procedural move, the House and Senate briefly convened in mostly empty chambers today to prevent President Donald Trump from making recess appointments. Senate leader John Thune confirmed there are not enough votes to pass a recess, which would have allowed Trump’s appointees to assume their posts without Senate hearings.
