Croix-des-Bouquets
The high security prison, inaugurated in 2012, was built with Canadian funding and was home to 1,542 prisoners - almost double its capacity of 872 inmates.

Inmate
One of the inmates who escaped the high security prison was gang leader Arnel Joseph, who was gunned down at a police checkpoint. Joseph had already escaped twice, in 2010 and 2017, from another prison.
