It isn't clear how the people died even as chaotic scenes played out at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul as several people thronged the tarmac.
US soldiers who are overseeing the evacuation of US diplomats from Kabul fired warning shots.
Meanwhile, all commercial flights have been cancelled, the airport authorities announced.
"All the flights from Kabul airport have been temporarily cancelled and the passengers should not come to the airport until informed," the statement said.
The Taliban swept to power on Sunday as Ashraf Ghani fled the country in order to avoid any bloodshed. The takeover brought to an end a two-decade war between the Taliban and US forces.
