GOP House Leader nominee Mike Johnson: 'Caught by surprise' on Matt Gaetz resigning from Congress

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday won Republican nomination to remain in the position, after US President-elect Donald Trump appeared to have backed him during a meeting with House Republicans. While speaking to reporters, House Speaker Mike Johnson said that Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz handed in his letter of resignation on Wednesday. "That caught us by surprise a little bit," Johnson added.
