France launches fresh probe into Epstein links

Paris: French authorities have opened new investigations into possible sexual and financial crimes linked to Jeffrey Epstein and are re-examining the case of modelling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, who died in a French prison in 2022.

The Paris prosecutor's office said Saturday it has set up a dedicated investigative team to review documents released by the US Justice Department and assess potential links involving French nationals.

Prosecutors will also revisit evidence related to Brunel, a former Epstein associate who died in an apparent suicide while facing rape charges.

The Justice Department's largest release yet of Epstein files has sent ripples through political, business and financial circles worldwide, prompting resignations of several figures cited in connections with the disgraced financier.

In France, former Culture Minister Jack Lang resigned this month as head of a Paris cultural center following allegations of ties to Epstein, while prosecutors opened a tax investigation. Lang has denied wrongdoing.
