Former 'President' of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir dies

Veteran politician Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan, a four-time 'President' of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, died here today after a protracted illness.

ISLAMABAD: Veteran politician Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan, a four-time ' President' of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, died here today after a protracted illness.

91-year-old Khan was chief of the Muslim Conference which is the oldest political party in PoK. He was elected as 'President' of the disputed region for the first time in 1956.

Khan was also elected as 'President' in 1971, 1985 and 1990. He was later appointed as ' Prime Minister' serving till 1996.

He had been suffering from several diseases since last few years and was politically inactive.

His son Attique Ahmad Khan has taken over the leadership of the Muslim Conference.
