Firing by Taliban and stampede amid Independence day rally kills several in Afghan city

As people rally under the national Afghan flag on the 'Independence Day', clashes between the Taliban and protestors results into violence as several die amid firing and stampede in Asadabad.

Natives in the eastern provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar and Khost on Wednesday openly rallied waiving the Afghan national flag, as per Afghan Media.
A lot of people were killed in the Afghan city of Asadabad on Thursday when Taliban open fired on people hoisting the national flag at an independence day rally, a witness stated.

It was unclear if people were being killed of firing or from the stampede it originated, added witness Mohammed Salim.

This comes after Taliban declared Independence day on Thursday, stating its victory over "the arrogant of power of the world".


Natives in the eastern provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar and Khost on Wednesday openly rallied waiving the Afghan national flag, as per Afghan Media.

Provinces of Nangarhar and Khost reportedly saw violence as Taliban members clashed with protestors.

The Taliban have stated that next government will decide on the national flag.
