An explosion has halted production in a facility at the Sarsang oilfield in Iraqi Kurdistan, and firefighters are still trying to put out the fire, the field's operator HKN Energy said on its X account.

Two oil engineers told Reuters that production operations at the oilfield have been halted as a precautionary measure.

"All personnel have been safely accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. However, the facility remains on fire, and emergency response teams are actively working to contain the situation," HKN added.

The company added that the incident is under investigation and that it has initiated a full assessment of the damage.

It did not give any further details about the cause of the fire.

On Monday, two drones fell on the Khurmala oilfield near Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan, damaging the oilfield's water pipes.
