EU wants open procurement market, studies Biden's "Buy American" order

Biden added the EU was seeking to accelerate its work on a system, the "international procurement instrument", which could penalise trading partners that do not open their government procurement contracts as much as the European Union does.

BRUSSELS: The European Union is still assessing U.S. President Joe Biden's "Buy American" executive order, but wants more open procurement markets globally, EU trade commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis said on Tuesday.

"We need to do this analysis before commenting in detail, but in general you will recall we are working for open procurement markets everywhere in the world," he told a news conference.

He added the EU was seeking to accelerate its work on a system, the "international procurement instrument", which could penalise trading partners that do not open their government procurement contracts as much as the European Union does.
