EU sees highest number of irregular migrants since 2016: Border agency

The number of irregular crossings into the European Union rose 70 percent in the first nine months of 2022 to its highest level since 2016, the EU's border agency said on Thursday.

The Frontex agency said in a statement that a total of 228,240 entries were detected, including 106,396 through the Balkans which was a 170-percent increase from the same period in 2021.
