EU breaks with Trump over US-Russia diesel deal? Europe hits Putin with largest sanctions since 2022
Trump Vs Europe: Transatlantic relations witness another split as US President Donald Trump eased sanctions on Russian energy imports. The news has raised concerns among European leaders as Russia has intensified its aggression against Ukraine. Breaking away from Trump's decision, Europe is stepping up economic pressure on Russia by imposing the biggest sanctions on Russia since 2022. During the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on October 12, the Foreign Policy Vice President Kaja Kallas made it clear that the US is our biggest ally. As per Euronews, she said that 'US is our biggest ally, but our message is clear: if we want to end this war, the only way we can do this is by putting more pressure on Russia.' Kallas sent a direct message to Donald Trump that easing sanctions does not work. Clarifying that easing sanctions on Putin only leads to more aggressive attacks on Ukraine. For Putin, additional European restrictions could create further economic challenges, while the impact will depend on enforcement, international cooperation, and Russia’s ability to adapt to existing measures. The situation raises important questions about whether the EU's economic pressure can influence Moscow’s decisions and how the EU's recent shift in US relations will affect the Russia-Ukraine war.
