National Security Adviser Ajit Kumar Doval is likely to skip BRICS NSA Meet in Brazil on April 30 as tensions with Pakistan escalate following the Pahalgam terror attacks.

Doval will be represented by Deputy NSA Pawan Kapoor at the meet, ET has learnt. The BRICS NSA meeting will focus on cross-border terror among other international security related issues. Sources hinted that countering cross-border terror, terror financing and terror infrastructure will figure high on the agenda of the BRICS NSA meet.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister visit to Brazil for BRICS Foreign Minister meeting on April 28-29 also appears uncertain at this stage amid prevailing tensions with Islamabad, ET has learnt. No final decision has been taken though. India's BRICS Sherpa could represent the country at the meeting.


Foreign ministers and national security advisors of 11 BRICS members will meet to firm up and fine-tune the agenda for the July summit with focus on artificial intelligence, climate finance, cross-border payments initiative and reforms of multilateral institutions.

The BRICS summit on July 6-7 in Rio De Janeiro is expected to adopt a document on artificial intelligence that is in line with multilateral approach and a document on climate finance, it has been learnt.

The foreign ministers meeting will focus on international hotspots across the globe including in Ukraine and West Asia, it has been learnt.
