Trump mentioned that President Joe Biden also communicated with him about "Secret Service protection." "President Biden called me yesterday (Tuesday). He was very nice... a nice conversation. I appreciate that he called," Trump stated at the event.
Trump also noted his conversation with Harris, saying, "I got a very nice call from Kamala... It was very and we appreciated that." He emphasized the need for political unity and his aim to "make America great again."
The White House described Harris's call as a "cordial and brief conversation" in which she expressed relief that Trump was safe. Harris confirmed during an interview in Philadelphia that she checked on Trump, saying, "I told him what I’ve said publicly, there is no place for political violence in our country."
This was the second assassination attempt on Trump in two months. The most recent incident involved a suspect, Ryan Routh, who was arrested after being seen with an AK-47-style rifle. A Secret Service agent drove the suspect away before any shots were fired at Trump.
