Delighted with Scottish referendum outcome: Cambridge University VC Sir Leszek Borysiewicz
NEW DELHI: Hailing the Scottish referendum outcome, Cambridge University Vice Chancellor today said the UK will become stronger by staying together.

In a historic referendum, Scotland people have rejected independence and decided to remain in the 307-year-old union with the United Kingdom.

"I am delighted with the outcome because at the end of the day at least it allows people to move forward," Sir Leszek Borysiewiczsaid said in response to a query on Scottish referendum results.

"As a country and that (being) together we will be able to be stronger than going separate ways. The Scottish people have made a decision and of course we all respect that," Borysiewicz told PTI in an interview here.

The Vice Chancellor, who is on a visit to India, said there are many Scots at the university and there were discussions about the referendum.

"The university did not have a particular line. It is the decision of Scotland people... Whatever is the outcome we have to abide by the decision," he said.

Borysiewicz has been at the helm of the University of Cambridge, one of the world's oldest universities, since October 2010.

The referendum was the culmination of a two-year campaign and talks would now begin on devolving more powers to Scotland, which had joined the United Kingdom in 1707.
