‘Degrade Iran’s capacity…’: US defends strikes on nukes at UN, says threat to Israel was real
US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities aimed to degrade its ability to build nuclear weapons, said acting US envoy to the U.N., Dorothy Shea, during a Security Council meeting on June 24. Shea called the strikes a lawful act of collective self-defense under the U.N. Charter. President Trump declared that Iran’s key enrichment sites were ‘completely obliterated’ and later announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, raising hopes for de-escalation.
