'Cuba's a failing nation...': Trump indicates talks underway for deal with Cuba
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday (February 1) that he believed the United States was "going to make a deal with Cuba." Trump said last week tariffs would be imposed on imports from countries that supply Cuba with oil, ratcheting up the pressure on Washington's long-time foe after ousting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a key Cuban ally, in early January. In 2025, Venezuela was Cuba's largest oil supplier, meeting roughly one-third of the island's daily needs. Supply from Venezuela dropped following the U.S. blockade on shipments from there, even before the capture of Maduro.
