Columbia student detained for pro-Palestinian stance seeks $20mn in damages from Trump

Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University student and pro-Palestinian activist, visited Capitol Hill on Tuesday after spending over 100 days in US immigration detention. Khalil met with lawmakers including Pennsylvania Democrat Summer Lee to demand an end to what he called the “U.S.-funded genocide” and seek accountability from Columbia University and the Trump administration. Arrested in March and released on June 20, Khalil now seeks $20 million in damages, alleging his detention was politically motivated.
