BEIJING: Under China's ambitious plan to digitalise education, all primary and middle schools in the country will be provided Internet facility and multi-media classrooms.

The Chinese Ministry of Education today asked local governments and enterprises to cooperate to help primary and middle schools in remote and poor rural areas get access to the Internet.

Under the ministry's 2015 plan of digitalisation of education, each school will have at least one state-of-the-art computer facility.

The ministry also suggested more fiscal support in setting up multi-media classrooms, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

In 2015, 2.6 million teachers and 50,000 principals will be trained and assessed on information technology in kindergartens, primary and middle schools.

China's netizen population, the world's largest, had reached 649 million by the end of 2014.
