China dismisses Modi-Abe summit as emotional moves without any real impact

China has dismissed the 10th summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe as emotional moves bereft of any impact on the ground.

China is not scared of the two countries coming together despite all the talk of Japan sharing submarine technology with India which would be an effective counter to China's expanding influence the Indian Ocean.

Nor does it seem to have affected by the two countries planning an Asia Africa Growth Corridor, an answer to China's much hyped Belt and Road Initiative.

"Under the international relations logic of the 21st century, closer India-Japan ties won't pose grave threats to China because many of their emotional moves to console each other won't produce any real effects in challenging China. China can spare some attention to this to remind itself that our strategy needs to be more extensive. Yet it doesn't matter if China has no time for that," says Global Times, a state-run Chinese news outlet.

It says China's trade with Japan and India is far bigger than bilateral trade between India and Japan. And that's why Japan and India are unlikely to challenge China by coming together.

"A strong China has the confidence that no Asian country can substantially challenge China's national security, nor can they by grouping together. China has been in the core of economic cooperation in Asia. Geopolitics is unlikely to go against the geo-economic situation," wrote the newspaper.
