Jeff Bezos' space travel company, Blue Origin, has announced that actor William Shatner, who starred in the 'Star Trek' series, will blast off from West Texas on October 12. Shatner played the role of Captain James T. Kirk, the commander of the USS Starship Enterprise, for three seasons of the TV series, and in seven movies

Shatner's flight will last just 10 minutes and reach no higher than 106 kilometers. The capsule will parachute back to the desert floor, not far from where it took off.

An excited Shatner tweeted: "Yes, it's true; I'm going to be a 'rocket man!'' He said he had "heard about space " for a while and is now getting the opportunity to see it. Quite an understatement for someone who played Captain Kirk.
