Brevard Public Schools has closed all schools on Monday due to flooding and severe weather in Central Florida

Brevard County Public Schools have cancelled classes on Monday after flooding and heavy rain prompted a flash flood warning across parts of Central Florida. Heavy and persistent rain lashed Brevard overnight, dumping six to 10 inches of rain in some parts of south Brevard. Due to extremely heavy showers, Brevard Public Schools also announced on social media that all schools would be closed Monday, November 2 due to the flooding.

A flood watch remains in effect for all of east central Florida through 7 p.m., with an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain expected. Some isolated areas could see up to 5 inches, according to the News 6 weather team.

"We're aware of widespread road flooding, especially in the south end of the county. If you don't have to be out on the roads, stay home for the safety of yourself & others. As rainy conditions continue, do not drive on flooded roadways—find an alternate route," the school said in a post on X.

Heavy rain lashes Central Florida, flood watch issued

A Flood Watch is in effect through 7 p.m. for all of east Central Florida. Saturated soils, especially from Brevard County southward through the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee, will increase the risk of localized flash flooding.

Some areas could see 1 to 3 inches of additional rain today. Police warned residents to remain off the roads if possible as the National Weather Service issued an early morning alert warning of an imminent threat of flash flooding.

“The rain is going to continue until it stops, its very unusual too have this much rain overnight,” Scott Kelly, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne, told Florida Today.

Heavy rainfall caused flooding across several areas, with roadways in northwest Palm Bay, including parts of Jupiter Boulevard and Elmont Street, among those affected. Flooding was also reported in Titusville and along Ocean Boulevard in Satellite Beach. Meanwhile, Cocoa Beach officials warned residents that persistent rain had increased flows at lift stations, pushing them to full operating capacity.
