SOUTH HERO: Bernie Sanders, an advocate for the working people, has bought his third house for nearly $600,000.

Fresh off the presidential campaign trail, the self-described Democratic socialist bought a seasonal waterfront home in North Hero, Vermont, in the Lake Champlain islands, for $575,000, as first reported by Seven Days weekly newspaper.

He and his wife also own a row house in Washington, DC, and a home in Burlington, Vermont, a Sanders’ spokesman said Thursday.

“We’ve travelled up to the islands many times over the years — almost always on day trips,” his wife, Jane O’ Meara Sanders, said. She said her family recently let go of a home they had owned in Maine, enabling her and her husband to buy the place on Lake Champlain. She said her family had owned a lake home in Maine since 1900 but didn’t have time to go there in recent years, particularly since her parents died.
