Bebinca strongest typhoon to hit Shanghai since 1949: State media

Shanghai: Typhoon Bebinca is the strongest typhoon to hit Shanghai since 1949, state media said shortly after the storm made landfall.

"The maximum wind speed near the centre was 42 meters per second on landfall," state broadcaster CCTV reported. "Bebinca also surpassed Typhoon 4906, 'Gloria', and became the strongest typhoon to make landfall in Shanghai since 1949."
